Getting started with Flint

Flint turns what you say into a written note. You talk, it transcribes, and it writes the result up in a format you can actually read later.

There is no account to create. No email, no password, no verification link. Install the app, open it, and record.

Your first note

1. Open Flint. The first time, a short walkthrough points at the record button.
2. Tap the record button at the bottom right.
3. Say whatever is on your mind. No structure needed. Ramble.
4. Tap stop.

Flint transcribes the audio and writes it up in your chosen format. The note appears at the top of your home screen, titled for you.

That is the whole loop. Everything else in this guide is optional.

What Flint asks for, and why

Flint asks for permissions only when a feature needs one:

• Microphone: required to record. Nothing works without it.
• Notifications: for the morning digest of yesterday's notes. Optional.
• Location: only if you turn on the weather background. Your phone looks up the weather itself; your location is never sent to Flint's servers.

How Flint knows who you are

Since there is no sign-in, your phone is given an anonymous ID the first time you open the app. That ID is what holds your credits and your purchases.

What that means in practice:

• Your notes live on this device, not on a server. Nobody at Flint can read them.
• On iPhone, the ID survives reinstalling the app. On Android it may not.
• Uninstalling the app takes your notes with it. Export anything you want to keep first.

Choosing where your audio is processed

Flint can transcribe in three ways, and you pick which under Settings → Processing Mode:

New installs start with credits for the cloud mode, so your first notes are as accurate as Flint gets. When those run out, on-device mode keeps working forever, free and unlimited. It is just less accurate, especially with accents, background noise, or several speakers.

When the starter credits run out

Three options, none of them a subscription:

• Switch to On my phone and carry on for free.
• Buy a Credits Pack: a one-time top-up of cloud transcription.
• Buy Essentials or Pro, which include credits and unlock more of the app.

Flint has no recurring fees. Whatever you buy is a one-time purchase.
