Recording a note

The record button is the round button at the bottom right of the home screen. Tap it, speak, tap stop. Everything else on this page is optional.

Ways to start recording

• The record button on the home screen.
• From an existing note: record a follow-up without going back home.
• The home screen widget: record, open voice input, or jump to your chats without opening the app first.
• The Live Activity: once recording starts, a live timer appears on your lock screen, with pause and resume.

While you are recording

A live timer and waveform show that Flint is listening.

• Pause and Resume if you need a moment. The recording stays one note.
• Cancel throws it away.

Add context as you speak

There is a text field on the record screen, labelled Add key points, terms, or context. Anything you type there is used when the note is written up.

It is the fastest way to get names, jargon, or product codes spelled correctly, and to tell Flint what the recording is actually about.

Add pictures

You can attach images while recording, without stopping:

• Take a picture: a whiteboard, a slide, a receipt, a page of a book.
• Attach from library: pick photos you already have.

Flint reads the text in those images and folds it into the note, so a photographed slide becomes part of the write-up rather than just an attachment sitting underneath it.

If a recording gets interrupted

If the app is killed or your phone dies mid-recording, Flint tries to recover the audio the next time you open it. Recovered notes carry a Recovered badge, so you know to check the end of the transcript, where the last few seconds are the most likely to be missing.

One known limitation: recording can stop when you switch to another app or leave the screen locked for a long stretch. For anything long (a lecture, a meeting, an interview), keep Flint in the foreground.

Recording straight into a format

Swipe left on the record button to open the format picker. Tapping a format there both selects it and opens the record sheet, so you can record one note as a checklist without changing your default.
