Languages

Flint has three language settings, and they are independent of each other.

Input language

The language you are speaking. Flint detects it automatically by default, which is right most of the time.

Set it explicitly when:

• Auto-detection keeps guessing wrong.
• The recording has heavy background noise or a strong accent.
• You are switching between languages and want everything transcribed as one.

Open it from the language button on the record or note screen.

Note language

The language the finished note is written in.

• Auto keeps the note in whatever language you spoke.
• Picking a language translates the note into it, while the transcript stays in the original.

So you can speak Finnish and read the note in English, with the Finnish transcript still sitting in the Transcript tab. Useful for sharing a note with someone who does not speak the language you recorded in.

App language

The language of Flint's own buttons and menus, under Settings → App Language.

Available in English, Arabic, German, Spanish, Finnish, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Swedish, and Chinese. The interface updates immediately, with no restart.

When words come out wrong

If the same name, product code, or piece of jargon is mangled every time, add it under Settings → Key Terms. Those terms are handed to the transcription engine so it knows to expect them.

Key Terms is for the vocabulary you use constantly. For one-off context, type it into the field on the record screen instead. See Recording a note.
